Cogzera (“we”, “us”) is an AI-powered Chrome extension and companion website (cogzera.com) that helps you read, write, and act on whatever page you’re looking at — chat with an AI about the page, draft email replies, check grammar, summarize documents, and similar tasks. This Privacy Policy explains what information the extension and website collect to do that, why, and the choices you have. It’s written to be specific about how a browser extension like this actually works, not just a generic template.
1. Single purpose
Cogzera’s single purpose is to act as an AI assistant on the pages you choose to use it on: reading the content you point it at (or your typed prompt) and generating a response — a chat reply, a drafted email, a corrected sentence, a summary, or a similar output. Every permission the extension requests exists to support that one purpose; none of them are used for unrelated data collection or advertising.
2. Information we collect
Account & authentication information
To use paid plans, you create an account: your email address plus a hashed password, or your Google account identifier if you sign in with Google. This is managed via our authentication provider, Supabase. We never see or store your Google password.
Payment information
We store your plan, billing period, and subscription status. Your card details are entered directly into our payment processor Paddle’s checkout — we never see or store your full card number.
Website content & user activity (the core of what the extension does)
When you actively trigger an AI feature — opening the chat panel, clicking the universal “Ask AI” button on a text field, running an agent action, using Grammar check, generating a spreadsheet, or asking for a search-page AI answer — Cogzera reads the relevant part of that page (or the text/file you provide) and sends it, along with your prompt, to our backend and then to the AI model that generates the response. We only do this for the specific page and moment you invoke a feature; Cogzera does not continuously read or log every page you visit, and does not collect your general browsing history.
Personal communications
The Gmail / Outlook / Yahoo Mail “AI Reply” feature and the universal AI-reply button can read the email or message thread you’re actively replying to, so the AI can draft a relevant response. This only happens on a mail page when you open that feature — Cogzera does not read your inbox in the background or index your email history.
Usage & diagnostic data
Credits used, which features and AI models you use, and basic error/diagnostic logs, so we can enforce plan limits and fix bugs.
Local extension settings
Preferences (e.g., which widgets are enabled), cached model lists, and cached icons are stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage. This stays on your device and is not sent to us, except the minimum needed to sync your account across devices.
We do not collect health information, precise location, or financial account numbers, and we do not sell your personal information to third parties or data brokers.
3. Chrome extension permissions, and why we need each one
- Storage — to save your settings, cached model/credit data, and session locally so the extension doesn’t reload everything on every use.
- Active tab / scripting — to read the content of the page you’re on and insert AI-generated text into it, but only when you invoke a Cogzera feature on that page.
- Identity — to support “Sign in with Google” via Chrome’s OAuth flow, so you don’t have to create a separate password.
- Alarms — a background keep-alive used by the AI agent while it’s actively completing a multi-step task you started; it does not run when you’re not using an agent feature.
- Host access on Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo Mail, and Google Search — required specifically to place the AI Reply button and the Search AI Answer widget inside those pages. You can turn each of these widgets off individually in the extension’s settings.
- Microphone (only if you use voice input) — your browser will separately prompt you to allow this; audio is used to transcribe your prompt and is not stored after transcription.
If Cogzera’s use of information received via Google sign-in ever involves Google Workspace APIs, that use will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
4. How we use your information
- To run the specific AI feature you invoke and return a response;
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service (enforcing credits/plan limits, syncing settings across your devices);
- To process payments and manage your subscription;
- To send service-related communications (billing receipts, security alerts, and — only with your consent where required — product updates);
- To detect, investigate, and prevent abuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms of Service;
- In aggregated or de-identified form, to understand which features are used and improve Cogzera. Aggregated data cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
We do not use the content of your AI requests to train third-party foundation models beyond what each model provider’s own data-use terms permit (see Section 5).
5. Who we share it with
We share data only with service providers who need it to operate Cogzera, under contracts that limit their use of your data to providing that service:
- Supabase — authentication and database hosting for account and usage data.
- AI model providers (accessed through our backend proxy) — receive only the specific page content/prompt needed to generate the response you requested for that feature. We do not share your account email or billing information with model providers.
- Paddle — payment processing and, for many purchases, merchant-of-record billing.
- Law enforcement or regulators, only where required by valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Cogzera, our users, or the public.
If Cogzera is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.
6. Data retention
We retain account and billing data for as long as your account is active, and for a limited period afterward as needed for legal, tax, or dispute-resolution purposes. Page content, messages, and files submitted to AI features are processed to generate a response and are not retained by us for training purposes; they may be briefly kept in logs for debugging and abuse prevention, then deleted on a rolling basis.
7. Your rights and choices
- You can access, correct, or delete your account data anytime from the Account page, or by emailing privacy@cogzera.com.
- Depending on where you live (e.g., under GDPR or CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, port, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. We will honor valid requests within the timeframe required by applicable law.
- You can disable individual Cogzera widgets (universal AI button, Gmail/Outlook/Yahoo AI reply, search AI answers, voice input) from the extension’s settings at any time, and uninstall the extension to stop all local data collection immediately.
8. Children’s privacy
Cogzera is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact privacy@cogzera.com and we will delete it.
9. International data transfers
Our service providers may process data in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for these transfers.
10. Cookies (website)
The cogzera.com website uses essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember basic preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
11. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards (encrypted connections, access controls) to protect your data, but no system is completely secure. Please use a strong, unique password for your account.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date above, and where required, we will notify you directly.
